Here are some helpful things to consider when using your Morepork. To see our full Privacy Policy click here.
- Advise visitors to your home that you have video and image capture components operating for security purposes (Morepork Security Stickers can help you with this).
- Try to keep your components pointed toward your premises and your things that you are trying to monitor, be respectful about the privacy of your neighbours and others around you.
- Be responsible with how you share these; particularly over social networks as you can’t recall content once it has been made public.
- Be respectful about the privacy of people living at your property. Talk to them about how you use your Morepork and ensure they are comfortable.
- Your Morepork is highly customisable, has loud sirens and in some cases can send many emails/alerts to you or other recipients. Be sure to use these features in a manner that will not disrupt others around you unnecessarily.
- Be respectful where you use Morepork. Putting video cameras and image sensors in bedrooms and bathrooms may be intrusive on others. These areas could be protected with motion or door & window sensors.
- Only add people you trust as recipients of alerts after you have spoken to them and got their agreement to receive these first.

Early exit fees
For Morepork customers who have bought their kit prior to 18 November 2016 there are no early exit fees for cancelling your Morepork plan. However, any outstanding deferred payments for your Starter kit will be payable upon cancellation.
Customers signing up to a Morepork plan after 18 November 2016 and received their Security Starter Kit at no cost providing they continue their monthly Morepork plan for a minimum of 12 months. If your Morepork plan is cancelled before your 12 months term has ended, an early exit fee applies (The exit fee calculated in accordance with clause 1.1(a)). Customers signing up after 18 March 2020, if your Morepork plan is cancelled before your 36 months term has ended, an early exit fee applies (The exit fee calculated in accordance with clause 1.1(b)).
Early Exit Fee Calculations
- The early exit fee is calculated based on the amount of months remaining of your 12 month commitment, at $40 per remaining month. For example, if the associated Morepork plan is cancelled after the first 10 months, the early exit fee payable is calculated as $40 x 2 remaining months = $80. The early exit fee is a genuine pre-estimate of the losses Morepork will suffer as a result of your plan being cancelled before the end of the 12 month commitment and covers the associated kit subsidy, kit shipping and delivery costs and associated administrational and customer services costs. Early exit fees are “Charges” in accordance with our Customer Terms.
- The Exit Fee is calculated using the following formula: A = B – {(B/C) x D} Where:
A = Exit Fee.
B = ADT’s Subscriber Acquisition Cost (SAC) being a variable cost calculated by ADT based on the terms of this Agreement and consists of selling, marketing and, where applicable, installation costs.
C = The number of calendar months in the Initial Term.
D = The number of calendar months which have lapsed in the Initial Term.

Keeping your app secure
Ever worry about losing your phone? Does someone then have control over your home? Morepork has added security measures to make sure your home remains secure.
Touch ID and passcode access
This feature requires you to use Touch ID or a passcode every time you access the Morepork app
- Open the Morepork app and tap the three lines on the top left to access the menu.
- Tap ‘Settings’ then ‘Touch ID & Passcode’. Note if your device doesn’t support Touch ID, this option will not work.
- Press the toggle button beside ‘Passcode Access’.
- Enter a passcode, and reenter it to confirm.
- Once this is done, toggle the button beside ‘Touch ID’ to enable.
Note: Your device will need to support Touch ID to use this feature. You will also need to make sure you’ve set Touch ID up on your device, before you can set it up with Morepork.
Disabling automatic logins
If you do lose your device, for extra security, you can disable automatic logins via the web portal.
To do this:
- Visit morepork.nz/portal and login using the details you set up at purchase
- Click the ‘Mobile’ tab and the ‘Lost Device’ sub tab
- Select the login you want to disable, and click ‘Submit’. This will disable automatic login on any devices the login is used.
Buying and selling Morepork hardware - dos and dont's
What do I need before I buy?
You need to be an existing Morepork customer, with a Morepork subscription and control panel to utilise any Morepork hardware, including second-hand components.
The same terms and conditions apply to buying second-hand Morepork hardware as buying Works with Morepork products:
As the buyer, it is your responsibility to check the hardware is in good working order. Any issues will need to be taken up with the seller directly. While the Morepork Support Team can help you pair your hardware to your control panel, we do not provide a guarantee or warranty on hardware not purchased directly from us (or from our authorised retailers) as new.
Morepork is not liable in any way for hardware not purchased directly from Morepork (or from our authorised retailers) as new.
If you are buying a Morepork image sensor or video camera and the seller still has an active Morepork subscription, it is your responsibility to make sure they remove the device from their account first. No other add-ons need to be removed from an account prior to sale.
What can I sell?
You may choose to resell Morepork hardware you have purchased from us for your own personal use to another person when you no longer need it, except for your control panel. So, you can sell add-ons such as video cameras, door & window sensors, image sensors and smoke alarms. However, any such use of those second-hand components is not covered by the Morepork Warranty, we are not responsible for it and specific terms apply – see Customer Terms – Third Party Products.
We cannot permit the resale of your control panel because it is linked to you as an individual and we’re unable to reset it to someone else. This means giving your panel to someone else could compromise the security protocols that protect both you and the buyer. For this reason, we do not support control panels that are resold and we will not connect them to the Morepork service.
Before you sell:
If you wish to sell a Morepork image sensor or video camera, it is your responsibility to remove it from your account first.

No other add-ons need to be removed from your account prior to sale.
You should also let the buyer know that second-hand hardware is not covered by the Morepork warranty and that any issue with that hardware will need to be resolved directly with you. For more information see our Customer Terms.
Who are Alarm.com?
Alarm.com is Alarm.com Incorporated, the third party supplier in the USA who we engage to provide Morepork customers with the cloud, web portal and mobile app components of the Morepork service and who supplies us the video cameras used in connection with the Services.
The Alarm.com Infrastructure consists of various web application servers, application servers, database servers, file servers, signal dialers, management servers and various security/storage/network devices. The web application servers reside in a DMZ network, which is segmented by a firewall from all other networks. It permits inbound web (HTTPS) traffic to the load balancer, which distributes traffic to each of the web application servers. The application servers establish connections to the database servers and other backend servers, which are on an internal network, also firewalled from all other network segments. The order-processing server connects to Alarm.com’s hosted financial system and in the case of credit card based payment, to an external payment processing system over SSL/TLS. Virtual firewalls are also used to restrict and filter network traffic between network segments.
For credit card payment, the order processing server connects to an external payment processing system over SSL/TLS and is encrypted with AES 256 with SHA1. Virtual firewalls are also used to restrict and filter network traffic between network segments. Connections between end users and Alarm.com utilize AES 128 SHA. Alarm.com follows PCI guidelines and disables non-secure ciphers.
Alarm.com customer data is not stored on removable media. Removable media containing data is encrypted with AES-256 encryption and clearly marked to indicate that it contains sensitive data.
Note: under no circumstances is data extracted from the production environment unless required by law.
Alarm.com has built dedicated VPN connections to each carrier to support two-way communication to all devices. All communication to end users is through HTTPS and relies on SMTP for notification in real-time. Video cameras use FTP to upload video clips over VPN to Alarm.com’s data center.
All access to the production environment is via remote access. Administrators requiring access to the Alarm.com Data Center environment shall connect using Virtual Private Network (VPN) or web VPN, and VPN devices shall authenticate customers before access to the network is allowed. Encrypted protocols and algorithms with at least 128-bit (or equivalent) encryption shall be used for VPN connections to the Alarm.com Data Center environment.

What security certification does Morepork have?
Morepork and its qualified staff all have relevant PSPLA (Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority) licences to operate as a security company in NZ.

How secure are my videos, photos and personal information?
No one at Morepork has access to your photos or videos. Only those you choose to give access to with login settings will be able to view photos and videos. If you give someone else access to your Morepork you can still choose to restrict their access to photos and videos by going to the ‘Profile’ tab and choosing ‘Manage Logins’ on the web portal.
If you’ve chosen the Professional Response Plan, you can allow the Professional Response Team access to your photos and videos (see here for details). They will only have access during alarm events and for up to an hour after, and only if you’ve give your express permission.
Our Safety Tips Guide
Our safety tips:
- Morepork will never ask you for your password, do not give this to anyone. Do not share your credentials with anyone.
- When you grant access to other users or logins of your Morepork ensure that you do not use the same password or login details. This includes not using a structure convention to create users or logins (IE: MyUser1, MyUser2, Etc).
- Actively manage the list of users or logins that have access to your Morepork. Remove people that no longer need access and ensure that remaining users or logins have appropriate access rights. You are responsible for their use of your Morepork. Choose people you trust and provide them with the Safety Tips, Terms and Etiquette Guide.
- We recommend you do not place your control panel where it can be seen from the exterior of your home.
- Do not use any credentials or passwords that you have used elsewhere, make sure these are unique to your Morepork.
- If you don’t need to store videos and photos, then it’s best to delete them. This makes the system easier to navigate and helps protect against anyone else accessing these images.
- Use WPA2 encryption on your modem to help keep your broadband network secure.
- Remember to log out after each use of the Morepork Website and Morepork Web Portal. If you want to remain signed in to the Morepork app, make sure you use passcode protection in case you phone gets in the wrong hands.

Who are the Morepork Professional Response Team?
Our Professional Response Team are made up of two companies – ADT Security and First Security.
ADT Security is ADT Security Limited, the owner of Morepork, providing Morepork customers with the professional monitoring component of our Professional Response Plan. ADT Security will monitor your alarm 24/7 and respond to any alarm or non-alarm event with a pre-agreed plan that is tailored to suit you. ADT Security-monitoring centre provides you with Professional Response services which you can take advantage of by purchasing the Morepork Professional Response plan. First Security are the third party supplier in New Zealand who we engage to provide Morepork customers with the guard dispatch services of our Professional Response Plan. First Security can attend alarm events and provide a physical response and level of security for those within their coverage area.

Morepork Returns and Change of Mind Policy
Returns Policy
For customers who subscribed before 17th July 2019 the returns can be made within the first 24 months.
In addition to your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, or other New Zealand legislation, if there are defects in the hardware of your Morepork Security Starter Kit or an Add-on (“equipment”) within the first 12 months from the date you purchased it, you can return it to us for a replacement if you comply with this Returns Policy. Your purchase of Morepork becomes effective at the end of your online purchase journey. To be eligible to return the Morepork Security Kit or any Add-on in accordance with this Returns Policy, please follow these steps:
- You will be sent a courier bag in which to return your equipment. The equipment must be returned to Morepork, or our nominated agent, and received at the address we provide within 18 days after you receive the courier bag.
- We will send a replacement for the returned equipment, the replacement may be new or refurbished stock.
- If you do not return the equipment you consider to be defective back to us in accordance with this Returns Policy, or we do not find a defect in the equipment (acting reasonably and in good faith), Morepork may charge you for the retail price of any equipment it has sent you as a replacement.
- Replacement items are not subject to a new 12-month replacement period; the original 12 month timeframe that started when you first purchased the equipment remains.
Change of Mind Policy
In addition to your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other New Zealand legislation, if you change your mind about purchasing your Morepork Security Starter Kit and/or a Morepork Add-On (‘equipment’) you can cancel your purchase agreement with Morepork for that equipment and receive a refund of the purchase price you paid for it within 7 days from the date our track and trace systems show the equipment was delivered to you, provided you comply with this Change of Mind Policy.
To be eligible to return the Morepork Security Kit or any Add-on in accordance with this Change of Mind Policy, please follow these steps:
- You must contact the Morepork Support Team to arrange the return of your equipment within 7 days of receiving your purchase. Your purchase of Morepork becomes effective at the end of your online purchase journey.
- You will then need to return the equipment to Morepork, or our nominated agent, at your own cost to the address we provide within 7 days after notifying us.
- The original Morepork security sticker must still be intact on the Security Starter Kit packaging and you must return each item in the transit packaging it was delivered to you in, the original Morepork packaging must not be damaged and the equipment must be unused and ‘as new’.
If the Morepork security sticker on the Security Starter Kit has been broken, we may not be able to accept the Security Starter Kit back or apply a refund. (We do not refund shipping fees for original delivery or return.)

What's the difference between Morepork and Morepork Video?
Morepork Video is a video monitoring plan that requires Morepork video devices and a video plan ($9.95 p/m). Morepork is a home automation and home security plan that requires Morepork security starter kit and a self-monitoring plan ($39.95).

Morepork app compatibility
The Morepork app can be used on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.
Visit your usual Google Play or Apple app store from your device and search ‘Morepork’.
The app is compatible with:
- iPhone and iPad – requires iOS 8.0 or later
- Android phones and tablets – requires OS 4.0.3 or later
If you have a Windows phone, you can download the Alarm.com app from the Microsoft store. You may not get all the functionality the Morepork app offers, but will be able to arm/disarm, peek-in and view video footage.
Can I change the ownership of my Morepork?
We do not allow change of ownership for any Morepork accounts, this includes Morepork Video.
This is because your account is linked to you as an individual and we’re unable to reset it for someone else. This means giving your account to someone else could compromise the security protocols that protect both you and the buyer.
If you want to change the email address/username on your account, you can do that by calling our Support Team at 0800 787 238.
However, you can resell your hardware (with the exception of the control panel) to someone who has an existing Morepork subscription. See here for details.

Check your postcode on the list to see if guard callouts are available where your Morepork is installed. If your postcode is not on the list, you can still have your Morepork professionally monitored, we just may not be able to send guards onsite.

Please note, if a guard is sent to your premise, you will be charged an additional $78.95 per half hour the guard onsite. Make sure you have you action plan up to date to prevent guards being sent for false alarms.
